Problem Statement: Financing Resilient Infrastructure, with Nature as Infrastructure.

Today, $2.9 trillion annually flows into infrastructure, often without factoring in physical climate risks. World Bank data indicates infrastructure disruption costs emerging and developing economies at least $390 billion yearly. Yet, the extra cost of resilience is only 3% of total investment, offering an overall net benefit of $4.2 trillion.

Public/private financing is stretched, and the Pensions Industry questions its role due to high-risk potential. Who will pay? Nature as Infrastructure is typically overlooked due to perceived cost, complexity, and challenges in measuring impact.

The planning process, often arcane and onerous, built on legacy systems, processes, and skills, delays projects, leading to cost overruns, increased risk, and stakeholder dissatisfaction.

Problem to be Solved

Focusing on resilient infrastructure, we'll examine who provides public/private finance, what's needed to assess return and risk, and how Nature as Infrastructure can be factored in. We'll explore this through the lens of large infrastructure planning, seeking to address the technical problem of the process: Technical debt. We'll investigate how Agentic AI can help deliver a solution for legacy systems, data, skills, and regulation.

Scope of this Hackathon

We will explore how these examples connect across systems to deliver Resilient Infrastructure expediently and cost-effectively, protecting nature, people, and property. The hackathon will focus on Agentic AI's role in surfacing decision-ready data to inform communities, stakeholders, financiers, and governments needing resilient infrastructure at speed.
